ADVICE TO BARUCH COLLEGE

Second Life offers a variety of new and exciting possibilities for teachers and students.
The idea for Baruch College is to deliver a wide range of courses and educational events using an on-line virtual world. Avatar-based virtual world education is very effective and highly interactive experience. Students would most gladly attend the virtual classroom. The biggest benefit of Virtual Education would be:

1. Thousands of students can be in the same class at the same time.
2. Students can watch the professor write on the electronic white board
3. Students can post questions during class time to smooth the progress of learning.
4. Immediate after class Web-based testing
5. Chat rooms for after-class discussions on the presented topic
6. Students can learn from the best instructors and experts
7. Student flexibility – individual learning style

Implementing this idea would give new opportunities to studying moms and students with disabilities who have limited access to education. This would make the learning process more interesting and exciting. Having said that, I also believe that this would encourage more people to apply and gain college degree.

  1. I think this is a great idea! It's a very unique and innovative style of learning, and it can definitely work to each student's own ability. It's great for chat rooms and Q&A because there are so many students participating at once, that someone is bound to have a question and of course an answer. It is also perfect for student flexibility like you mentioned as well.

  2. Don't you think though that this could be an easy out for non-commited students? Sure it's convenient but at what price? All students have to do is sign-in with their avatar, and their avatar sits and listens while the student himself is making himself a breakfast burrito and playing video games. There's something to say about face-to-face interaction that just isn't solid enough in the virtual world. You're in college...there will be more than plenty students looking for an easy A, and being able to log-in and tune out is pretty easy.

  3. I had the same idea, talking about the virtual classroom, I think virtual classroom can make the costs of getting education lower, it would cut down on transportation costs and also help the professors and other individual with time constraints. With this concept all it would need is a person to get on his/her computer on time and keep up to date with the assignment
